Behold! My Future Garden

29 Mar

Peeps, just a short post today to share my joy. I’m a new mother:

So proud!

I give you my baby plants! What you’re seeing there are my Genovese Basil in the front row, and my Romaine lettuce in the back row. Not visible are my heirloom “Mortgage Lifter” tomato starts.  I’ve also planted purple jalapeno (must. make. pepper. jelly.), Millionaire tomatoes, lavender and Sweet Chocolate peppers. Seriously, I can’t wait to eat these little guys 😉

These seeds were a lovely gift from my friend Jackie for my Thirtieth. What a great present! I’ve been getting really into eating locally lately and it doesn’t get much more local than one’s own back yard. Or, at least, what little backyard I do have. I have a patio which is about 10′ x 10′ and a little strip of earth which will house my Delicatesse cucumbers (destined to become pickles) and Kentucky Wonder green beans.

Is anyone else out there starting a garden for Spring? If so, what’s on the future menu?

Until next time,

Thanks for listing the name of your cucumber. Now that I’ve seen the description, I want one!

Yes, they’re supposed to be delicious. I got my seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co. I’m going to direct sow them probably in May.

Nice little garden! Chocolate peppers?? The closest I’ve gotten to gardening this spring is the purchase of a tomatoe plant. I’m in a third floor apt 🙂

Tiff- If you want to garden and only have an apartment there are still a lot of things you can do. I recommend the book “Apartment Gardening” and also “The Bountiful Container.” I’m assuming here that you have some sort of balcony though 🙂
